Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame.

1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night.

The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system.

MOTORISTS OWE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN UNPAID TRAFIC FINES

Police have nabbed two more motorists owing thousands of dollars in unpaid traffic fines. During one stop at 9 o'clock last night, a 50-year-old-man was charged with driving while suspended. A subsequent check showed he had $39, 000 in outstanding fines. A second stop resulted in a 23-year-old man being charged with driving while suspended, having no insurance, and failing to transfer ownership. The investigation indicated he owed $8, 000 in unpaid fines. His vehicle was impounded and he was released to appear in court at a later date.

I don't understand how the police or courts let unpaid fines accumulate that much. I wonder how they are going to be made to pay them? If they don't have the money will they get a jail sentence?

I bought a bunch of stuff, over $150, & I glanced at my receipt as the cashier was handing me the bags. I saw a cash-back of $40. I told her I didn't request a cash back and to delete it.
She said I'd have to take the $40 because she couldn't delete it. I told her to call a supervisor.

Supervisor came and said I'd have to take it. I said NO! I didn't want $40 cash advance !!!!!
If they couldn't delete it then they would have to delete the whole order. So the supervisor had the cashier delete the whole order and re-scan everything!
The second time I looked at the electronic pad before I signed and a cash-back of $20 popped up. At that point I told the cashier and she deleted it. The total came out right. The cashier agreed that the Electronic Pad must be defective.

Obviously the cashier knew the electronic pad was defective because she NEVER offered me the $40 at the beginning. Can you imagine how many people went through before me and at the end of her shift how much money she pocketed?

Just to alert everyone. My co worker went to Walmart last week. She had her items rung up by the cashier. The cashier hurried her along and didn't give her a receipt. She asked the cashier for a receipt and the cashier was annoyed and gave it to her.
My co worker didn 't look at her receipt until later that night. The receipt showed that she asked for $20 cash back. SHE DID NOT ASK FOR CASH BACK!

My co-worker called Wal-Mart who investigated but could not see the cashier pocket the money. She then called her niece who works for the bank and her niece told her this: This is new scam going on . The cashier will key in that you asked for cash back and then hand it to her friend who is the next person in line.

Please, please, please check your receipts right away when using credit or debit cards!
This is NOT limited to Wal-Mart, although they are the largest retailer so they have the most incidents.
I am adding to this. My husband and I were in Wal-Mart North Salisbury and paying with credit card when my husband went to sign the credit card signer he just happen to notice there was a $20 cash back added.
He told the cashier that he did not ask nor want cash back and she said machine has been messing up and she canceled it. We really didn 't think anything of it until we read this email.

I wonder how many "seniors" or busy Moms/Dads have been, or will be, "stung" by this one????

New Brunswick and Truro, N.S., have a lot in common if you ask Greg MacLean.

When asked what he thinks should replace Be ... in this place on the New Brunswick licence plate, the audio engineering student at the Centre for Arts and Technology was quick to come up with, 'New Brunswick - Ignore the Middle.'

In 2009, Shawn Graham's Liberal government adopted Be ... in this place, a slogan that cost an estimated $230,000 to develop.

Despite criticism from New Brunswickers who disliked the phrase, which quickly became something to joke about, it took two years for the provincial government to scrap the unpopular phrase on March 15, 2011.

According to Service New Brunswick, there are still 198,215 plates to be distributed, including 10,500 on palettes and 3,600 still in production. The number doesn't include conservation plates, antique plates, snowmobile plates, or seasonal plates.

Shuttle due back later this month

HOUSTON - With the end of the space shuttle program in sight, the U.S. government intends to stimulate development of private space transportation and also to lay the foundation for a new industry to service satellites in orbit.

The mission is the 135th and final flight in the 30-year-old shuttle program, which is ending due to high costs.

NASA hired two firms, Space Exploration Technologies and Orbital Sciences Corp, to deliver cargo to the station beginning next year.

The Obama administration wants NASA to buy rides for its astronauts as well, though no commercial suppliers are expected to be available until around 2015. In the meantime, the United States will pay Russia for space taxi flights, at a cost of more than $50 million a seat.

The $22.6-million Robotic Refueling Mission equipment is scheduled to be installed to the outside of the space station during a 6.5-hour spacewalk today.

There are about 360 operational commercial communications satellites and another 100 government-owned satellites orbiting Earth.

"Every single one of them one day is going to run out of fuel and be thrown away. That's the way it's always been done. If a robot can go up and refuel it, you wouldn't have to throw it away," Reed said.

Because the satellites weren't designed with refueling in mind - they have no navigational aids, no reflectors, nothing to help guide in an approaching spacecraft - the technical hurdles are steep.

Since the same technology also could be used to disable satellites, Reed said, NASA intends to be as open as possible about the project.

The spacewalk to install the project's trial run will be conducted by NASA's two space station crewmembers, Ron Garan and Mike Fossum.

Atlantis, which blasted off Friday from the Kennedy Space Center, is due back on July 21.

The inspections have been required on every mission since 2003, when shuttle Columbia broke apart as it returned to Earth, killing all seven crewmembers.

Alcohol | Medical journal says drinking can lead to various types of cancer

OTTAWA - Guidelines laid out by countries around the world as to how much alcohol you should drink are not strict enough to prevent cancer, says the Canadian Medical Journal, which is calling for new standards.

Guidelines in many countries are geared toward preventing the short-term effects of drinking - such as social issues and hospital admissions - said co-author Dr. Paule Latino-Martel in the analysis, which was released Monday.

The rules are also out-of-date, incomplete and sometimes biased, the analysis said.

Over the past decade, and especially during the past five years, more and more research, specifically by the World Health Organization and the World Cancer Research Fund, has shown that alcohol consumption is linked to cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, colon-rectum and breast.

"On the whole, alcohol is considered an avoidable risk factor for cancer incidence and, more generally, for the global burden of disease," said Latino-Martel of the French National Institute for Agricultural Research on Monday.

"It can be concluded that there is no level of alcohol consumption for which cancer risk is null."

Drinking alcohol, such as red wine, in moderation, helps stave off cardiovascular disease, some studies have suggested.

Latino-Martel wrote, however, that recent published research has shown a bias in methods in previous studies.

In Canada, the guidelines recommend low-risk - not no risk - consumption at nine drinks per week for women and 14 drinks per week for men. One drink is considered 13.6 grams of alcohol.

Those guidelines are set to be re-released sometime this year by Health Canada and the Canadian Centre for Substance Abuse.

"The time has come to reconsider (the guidelines) using a scientific basis independent of any cultural and economic considerations," the authors said.

"National health authorities should be aware of the possible legal consequences of promoting drinking guidelines that allow consumers to believe that drinking at low or moderate levels is without risk."

Canada's largest tobacco company says New Brunswick's legal action against several of the country's tobacco manufacturers will cost the province's taxpayers millions of dollars in lawyers' fees.

The provincial government said its lawsuit against tobacco companies is entering a more substantial phase, while a spokesman for the tobacco companies claimed the only winners in the lawsuit will be the lawyers handling the case.

But three years since taking big tobacco to court, the provincial government believes lawyers are moving into the more substantial stages of the legal action.

The province said prospects of both Manitoba and Nova Scotia joining New Brunswick in its legal battle against the tobacco industry to recover health-care costs could also reduce the cost of legal representation.

The Manitoba government said it intends to reach an arrangement with a consortium of law firms hired by the New Brunswick government to handle its province's litigation.

The Nova Scotia government is also seeking a firm to take on its case on a contingency basis.

"We're pleased to work with the other provincial governments towards the recovery of tobacco-related health-care costs," said Justice Department spokesman Paul Harpelle.

"There could be some benefits to taxpayers by consolidating efforts."

The provincial government issued a news release earlier this month heralding the two provinces for joining the legal action against big tobacco.

Attorney General Marie-Claude Blais said in the news release the province welcomed the opportunity to share resources, although neither province has signed on yet.

Big tobacco contests that the lawsuit is only in its infancy.

"At the end of the day the only potential winners will be the lawyers," said Eric Gagnon, a spokesman for Imperial Tobacco Canada.

"We will defend ourselves, and there is not going to be any out-of-court settlement."

Gagnon said Imperial Tobacco Canada has already been locked in a lawsuit with British Columbia for 10 years now, with New Brunswick's suit expected to chart the same course.

New Brunswick was the second province to file suit against tobacco companies.

Named in the action are Rothmans, Benson and Hedges Inc., Philip Morris USA Inc., R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, Imperial Tobacco Canada Ltd. and British American Tobacco (Investments) Ltd.

British Columbia was the first, while Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan all have put in place legislation that will enable them to sue.

Ontario also has a lawsuit against big tobacco.

"We think that all of these lawsuits will take years and years," Gagnon said. "It's going to be a lot of years and a lot of taxpayer dollars being spent without any guarantee at the end of the day that taxpayers will see any money ... The biggest loser here will be the taxpayer."

The provincial government declined to elaborate on where the legal battle stands.

Big tobacco maintains that governments across Canada collect approximately $8 billion in taxes from the tobacco industry. New Brunswick collects more than $80 million a year.

The New Brunswick Lung Association has estimated the province's lawsuit against tobacco companies could be worth up to $1 billion.

A consortium of lawyers hired by New Brunswick includes two from the province, several from Ontario and two firms in the United States that have been involved in settlements of state lawsuits.

The lawyers have been retained on a contingency fee, meaning they only get paid if they win or if there's a settlement.

The provincial government has previously stated that the fee won't exceed 30 per cent.

WILMINGTON, Del. - Apple Inc., Microsoft Corp., Research in Motion Ltd. and three other leading tech companies received court approval Monday to buy wireless patents from bankrupt Nortel Networks Corp. for $4.5 billion.

Judges in the United States and Canada approved the sale of 6,000 patents and applications, which fetched three times what some analysts expected from the four-day auction in June.

Nortel filed for bankruptcy protection from creditors in January 2009, and courts in the two countries are overseeing the disposal of the company's assets as the former telecommunications giant winds down its operations.

The group of six that won the auction, a collection that bid as Rockstar Bidco LP, also included EMC Corp., Ericsson and Sony Corp.

The auction was "record breaking in terms of this case and in the patent industry generally," Lisa Schweitzer of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, which represents Nortel, told a Delaware Bankruptcy Court hearing.

The auction started with a "stalking horse" bid of $900 million by Google Inc., a company with a relatively small pool of wireless patents in a booming industry increasingly fraught with lawsuits over intellectual property.

The price paid after 19 rounds of bidding indicated the lengths the Apple group was willing to go to thwart the mobile ambitions of Google, according to analysts.

They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-two students filing into
the already crowded auditorium. With their rich maroon gowns flowing
and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they
felt.
Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and Moms freely brushed away tears.
This class would NOT pray during the commencements, not by choice,
but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it.
The principal and several students were careful to stay within the
guidelines allowed by the ruling. They gave inspirational and
challenging speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidance and no one
asked for blessings on the graduates or their families.
The speeches were nice, but they were routine until the final speech
received a standing ovation.
A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone. He stood still
and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened.
All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly SNEEZED !!!!
The student on stage simply looked at the audience and said, 'GOD
BLESS YOU' And he walked off the stage...
The audience exploded into applause. This graduating class had found
a unique way to invoke God's blessing on their future with or
without the court's approval.

Isn't this a wonderful story? Pass it on to all your
friends.........and GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

This is a true story; it happened at Eastern Shore District High
School in Musquodoboit Harbour , Nova Scotia.

There has been 3 moose accidents with automobiles daily in this month of July, 2011 in the Province of Newfoundland (NTV news). The Prov. Gov. have put up some money to help the situation. One thing is putting up fencing. I have noticed that they have a lot of fencing in NB. You hardly ever hear of moose or deer accidents with automobiles here. So I think that is a good step for NL.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Canada's combat role in Kandahar ended Thursday with a death toll of 154 men and three women.

Canada ended its combat mission in Afghanistan, after nine years of fighting that saw it lose 157 troops and spend more than US $11 billion.

All but a handful of the Canadians to have been killed in Afghanistan died in Kandahar.

Of the 157 deaths, 137 were combat casualties. The other 20 died in what the military describes as "non-hostile incidents."

Of those 20 non-combat deaths, 11 were vehicle and helicopter accidents, six may have been suicides, two may have been the result of criminal negligence on the part of others soldiers involved in gun play and a training explosion involving a claymore mine. One death was of natural causes while a soldier was on leave in Canada.

Ninety-eight of Canada's 137 combat deaths were the result of attacks made with homemade land mines, usually buried under roads but also on foot paths and in the walls of compounds and trees.

Only 12 Canadians died in firefights or from enemy gunfire.

Nine of the Canadians died in Afghanistan as the result of attacks by suicide bombers.

All but two of the 157 deaths were soldiers serving in the Canadian army. One air force photo technician and one navy diver also died.

The war also claimed the lives of four Canadian civilians, including a diplomat, two aid workers and a journalist.

SCANDAL AT GRANT’S GENERAL STORE

The following story is performed by a theatre troupe at Kings Landing, NB.
This took place in the 19th century.

Word has reached this newspaper that there was a dramatic scene at Mr. Grant’s store of Kings Landing.
The drama that unfolded was not one performed by the local theatre troupe, but alas, was a true occurrence on Friday last.

A young lady (herein unnamed to protect her delicate nature) appeared at the door wearing a garment, which did not meet the appropriate requirements of a proper lady, who will always keep her ankles, wrists and collarbone covered.

“My first thought was to kindly ask the young lady to quit the premises,” said Mr. Grant. His spouse, however, took the occasion to insist the she peruse the fine selection of bolts of materials and laces, collars and bonnets, buttons and combs on hand.

The fine results of this most awkward encounter is that the young lady has more recently been spotted with couture befitting a lady.

The effects of alcoholism

DEAR DR. GOTT: Please list the effects that alcohol has on the body, and I mean all of them, such as how it makes a person look older and the harm drinking causes.

DEAR READER: Alcoholism is truly a disease with far-reaching effects on the individual who imbibes, as well as virtually on everyone surrounding him or her. Initial social drinking, sometimes with as little as one or two drinks, can change a passive personality into an aggressive, raucous, life-of-the-party person — for a while. However, as the habit progresses, the price everyone pays can become greater, more destructive and devastating.

Alcohol literally affects the entire body. Long-term drinkers may experience lengthier residual effects of slurred speech, impaired memory, blurred vision, inappropriate thinking and actions, and periods of blackouts with no memory of what happened or what was said.

The skin becomes prematurely wrinkled. The liver begins to malfunction, and the heart and brain are
adversely affected.

Whether they earned their mega-bucks through sports or acting or singing, Forbes magazine has released a list of the 20 richest people under the age of 30.

Topping it is Lady Gaga, the 25-year-old who also came in at No. 1 on Forbes' Celebrity 100 power rankings earlier this year.

Her ladyship grossed $90 million US between May 2010 and May 2011, according to the magazine, which based its numbers on the cash raked in via Gaga's Monster Ball tour and album sales. And that's not counting the new chart-topping record, Born This Way.

The only Canadian on the list is also the youngest celeb: 17-year-old Justin Bieber, who earned $53 million.

Other young celebs who made significantly more than you this year include Taylor Swift ($45 million), Katy Perry ($44 million), ($35 million), Rihanna ($29 million), Miley Cyrus ($15 million), Lil Wayne ($15 million) and Twilight co-stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who each earned $20 million.

Speed controls that are being used. How's this for effective speed control?

I don't know about you, but this would certainly slow me down!

People slow down and actually try to "straddle" the hole.

This is an actual speed control device that is currently in use.

It is MUCH cheaper than speed cameras, radar guns, police officers, etc.

Pretty clever-- especially when they move them around every day.

CAR PARKED IN LIVINGROOM

Crystal Watts was asleep in the basement of the home when she awoke to a loud crash. Watts says water from the 100 gallon fish tank started pouring down on her. She ran upstairs to find a car parked in her living room.

It looks like the four-door Toyota turned right onto Mundy Pond Road, from Blacklear Avenue, went up over an embankment, missed a tree and utility pole, before it crashed into the bungalow-style home.

Watts says there were four people home at the time, but the mother and three-year-old child were out getting groceries. She says luckily no one was injured. The investigation into what caused the crash is on-going.

Smoking could kill 8 million a year in 20 years - WHO

LONDON - Tobacco will kill nearly six million people this year, including 600,000 non-smokers, because governments aren't doing enough to persuade people to quit or protect others from second-hand smoke, the World Health Organization says. (WHO)
Since there is often a lag of many years between when people start smoking and when it affects health, the epidemic of tobacco-related disease and death has just begun, the WHO said. But by 2030, the annual death toll could reach eight million.

The UN health body urged more governments to sign up to and implement its tobacco control treaty, warning that if current trends persist, tobacco could cause up to a billion deaths in the 21st century, a dramatic rise from the 100 million deaths it caused in the previous century.

Tobacco kills up to half its users and is described by the WHO as "one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced." It causes lung cancer and other chronic respiratory diseases. It's also a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.

The WHO said smoking is one of the biggest contributors to a worldwide epidemic of non-communicable, or chronic, diseases such as heart attack, stroke, cancer and emphysema, which accounts for 63 per cent of all deaths worldwide, nearly 80 per cent of which occur in poorer countries.

Without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint,

Has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.

A deep breath should be taken before each

Cough, and the cough must be deep

And prolonged, as when producing sputum

From deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated

About every two seconds without let up

Until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and

Keep the blood circulating.

The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.

Tell as many other people as possible about this, it could save their lives!

8.9 EARTHQUAKE IN JAPAN ON FRI.,MARCH 14/11

JAPAN – March 11, 2011. Breaking news all over the place about the a major 8.9 earthquake hitting Japan and causing a massive 13-foot tsunami. The tremor struck at 2:46 pm local time creating powerful aftershocks including a 7.4 quake rocking the region. (We’ve been through a lot of earthquakes, but this one is very long and powerful.) Areas of Japan are underwater including Tokyo’s Disneyland parking lot along with fires in various parts of the country. News continues to flow in with more and more dramatic footage. Pray for Japan. The damage is expected to be higher than the quake and Tsunami that hit Indonesia in 2004.

Tsumani warnings have been issued around the world including Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Central and South America. In the US, sirens have sounded in Hawaii are evacuation. The West Coast of the US is also included in the warning.

Fatal quakes

Japan's worst previous quake occurred in 1923 in Kanto, an 8.3 magnitude temblor that killed 143,000 people, according to the USGS.

In later decades, Japan brought in strict building codes designed to minimize earthquake damage and loss of life, restricting the harm from seismic activity.

Still, a 7.2 magnitude quake in Kobe city in 1996 killed 6,400 people.

Japan lies on the "Ring of Fire" — an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones stretching around the Pacific where about 90 per cent of the world's quakes occur, including the one that triggered the Dec. 26, 2004, Indian Ocean tsunami that killed an estimated 230,000 people in 12 nations.

ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN

I took this picture at the Zeland United Pentecostal Church, with permission.
It is on the wall behind the podium. I think it is says a lot and things SHOULD happen in every church if "JESUS" is there.
Example: People should hear about THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, how that HE can save their soul, heal their body and be taught how to live for the LORD.
If that happens than people WILL repent (turn from sin) and follow JESUS by being baptized in HIS NAME for the remission of sins by immersion, which is the LORD JESUS CHRIST, and be filled with the HOLLY SPIRIT with the evidence of speaking in another language, "that will only come from the LORD." When that happens some people will be so happy that they will dance with joy (Acts chapter 2). The word Baptize come from the Greek word "baptizo" which means to immerse; submerge.
People WILL get healed (acts 4:14; 1 Peter 2:24)
I have seen it happen and have been healed myself.

Parking Space at Church

One day, a man went to visit a church, He got there early, parked his car and got out. Another car pulled up near the driver got out and said, "I always park there!

You took my place!"

The visitor went inside for Sunday School, found an empty seat and sat down A young lady from the church approached him and stated, "That's my seat! You took my place!" The visitor was somewhat distressed by this rude welcome, but said nothing..

After Sunday School, the visitor went into the sanctuary and sat down. Another member walked up to him and said, " That's where I always sit! You took my place!" The visitor was even more troubled by this treatment, but still He said nothing.

Later as the congregation was praying for Christ to dwell among them, the visitor stood up, and his appearance began to change. Horrible scars became visible on his hands and on his sandaled feet. Someone from the congregation noticed him and called out, "What happened to you?" The visitor replied, as his hat became a crown of thorns, and a tear fell from his eye, "I took your place.."

Maybe we can get the world to start thinking of who took our place..

Squirrels are the most active in late winter, when the mating season begins. The males will chase females, as well as, chase off other suitors. This ritual of chasing occurs through the trees at top speed. While they perform some of the most breathtaking acrobatics imaginable.
Squirrels are usually born in the early spring. The average litter consists of four. This varies with climate and location. A second litter can occur in mid summer, if there is an adequate food supply.
A female squirrel will choose the strongest male during mating season, but is unlikely to breed with that male again. This is nature’s way of reducing inbreeding, and to preserve the species. (They have more sense than humans do).
A baby squirrel weighs approximately one ounce at birth, and is about one inch long. They do not have hair or teeth, and are virtually blind for the first six to eight weeks.
In the summer squirrels are most active two to three hours after sunrise, then they'll rest in the afternoon. Resuming activity again two hours before sunset. The squirrel will retire to its nest well before dark, and will rarely leave the nest in the dark. In the winter, the squirrel will complete its activities between dawn and mid- day, and will remain in or around the nest until the next day.
During winter storms, or severe cold, the squirrel may not leave the nest for days. But, the tree squirrel does not hibernate!
An adult squirrel normally lives alone. But will, in severe cold, share its nest with other squirrels to conserve body heat. Once the temperature rises, the guests will be on their way. (They are smart).
The gray squirrels diet consists of nuts, seeds and fruit. It will eat bird eggs, bugs, and even an animal carcass if there is no other food source available. (We have gray squirrels here in our area).
The gray squirrel requires some salt in its diet, and may find this salt in the soil along roads where snow and ice may have been.
Squirrels chew on tree branches to sharpen and clean their teeth. That's why you may see many small branches on the ground around large trees. They will also chew on power lines for the same reason; this has caused many major power outages throughout the country.
A squirrel's brain is about the size of a walnut.
The average adult squirrel needs to eat about a pound of food a week to maintain an active life.
Squirrels communicate through a series of chirps. The frequency and the duration of the notes communicate everything from laughter to alarm. Their frequency range is normally between .01 kHz. and 10 kHz (kilohertz). These sounds when used in conjunction with tail gestures form the basis for squirrel communication.
A squirrel will break the shell of a nut with its teeth, then clean the nut by licking it or rubbing on its face before it is buried. This action applies a scent to the nut, which helps the squirrel find it later, even under a foot of snow.
The sweat glands of a tree squirrel are located on their feet, between the foot pads and on their paws between the toes. When hot or excited a squirrel will leave wet tracks on a dry surface. This scent is also used to mark the trees in their territory.
If a squirrel’s nest becomes infested with fleas or other parasites, it will move to, or build a new nest. This is why there may be more nests then squirrels in a given area. (Makes common sense).
When a squirrel senses danger, its first instinct is to stand motionless. If on the ground it will race to the closest tree, or other climbable object to escape. If it is in a tree, it will circle the trunk with its body pressed tightly to the bark.
The squirrel's erratic path while crossing a street is an attempt to confuse the oncoming vehicle... thereby causing it to change direction. This is obliviously the squirrel’s biggest and often last mistake.
The male tree squirrel takes twice as long, as the female, to groom itself. They are the cleanest animal in the rodent family.
The most common type of squirrel bite is a result of feeding a squirrel by hand. Never hold the food between your fingers, chances are very good you will be bitten. A squirrel's eyes are always looking for predators and they rarely focus on what they are eating.

I'm amazed at how God made birds and animals to do what they do. God gave humans a choice to do what is right or wrong, but sometimes birds and animals have more sense than humans.

THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY

MIGRATION

Each autumn, thousands of Monarch Butterflies gather in southern Canada to migrate south. Some of these butterflies travel over 2,900 kilometers; just to overwinter in places such as Michoacan, Mexico in a small town called Angangueo. Other Monarch Butterflies also overwinter in Cuba, and Pacific Grove, as well as Newark, California. In sanctuaries such as the one in Angangueo, Michoacan in Mexico there are millions of these gorgeous butterflies. From morning until about 1:00pm, they are most active. You can see them flying around and almost blocking the sky. You will hear the fascinating sound of their wings flapping. During their long flight there is a great danger from predators.

THE PASTOR'S CAT

Dwight Nelson recently told a true story about the pastor of his church. He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc.

The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and pulled it until the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten.

That's what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car. He then figured if he went just a little bit farther, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved the car a little farther forward, the rope broke.

The tree went 'boing!' and the kitten instantly sailed through the air - out of sight.

The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. No, nobody had seen a stray kitten. So he prayed, 'Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping,' and went on about his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. This woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her,

'Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?'

She replied, 'You won't believe this', and then told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, 'Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it.'

She told the pastor, 'I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her.'

Never underestimate the Power of God and His unique sense of humour.

Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield, MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928.

He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!!

He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. Just thought you'd like to see it.

He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death.

It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch,

dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years)

That's approximately 2000 miles per year...

The Ant and the Contact Lens: A TRUE STORY!!!

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens.

'Great', she thought. 'Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry.' She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there.

She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she might find her contact lens. When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse 'The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.'

She thought, 'Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me.'

Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, 'Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?'

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!

The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, 'Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You.'

I think it would do all of us some good to say, 'God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will.'

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day. Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him...I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

Bay of Fundy Shorebirds

Each summer, for a 4-6 week period beginning in mid-July, 1-2.5 million shorebirds (up to 75% of the world's population of the Semipalmated Sandpiper) congregate in waves at several key locations in the upper reaches of the bay. The Bay of Fundy is their only stopover on a 4,000 km migration south.

One of the best locations to see the shorebirds is the Hopewell Rocks. Visitors who come during the shorebird migration will be treated to mesmerizing aerobatic displays. Plan to visit at high tide when large flocks of the birds are flying close to shore or resting on the pebble beaches.

The females are the first to leave the Arctic, initiating this yearly migration south. Flocks of males leave next. Amazingly, the season's newly hatched young are the last to leave the breeding grounds, following a route they have never flown before, perhaps pre-programmed by some inborn instinct.

They all arrive at precise locations on the Bay of Fundy: Hopewell Rocks, Johnson's Mills and Mary's Point along the New Brunswick Shore; Starr's Point and Evangeline Beach on the Minas Basin, Nova Scotia.

Why are these locations special?

A small amphipod, approximately 4-5 mm long, that lives in the Fundy's salty mud. Known as the mud shrimp, this tiny aquatic crustacean draws hundreds of thousands of shorebirds to the Bay of Fundy each summer.

The Fundy mud and marshlands make a perfect habitat for these small microscopic creatures with the official name of Corophium volutator. It burrows into the mud as the water rises, then as the tide recedes, scurries to the surface to feed on the abundant algae, detritus and diatoms from nearby salt marshes,

On some flats, as many as 10,000-20,000 tiny crustaceans can be found in a square meter of the brown muck; during reproductive cycles, up to 60,000 have been recorded.

These mud shrimp create a highly nutritious feast for the arriving shorebirds, providing them with the necessary energy stores for the southern migration.

A single bird can eat 10-20,000 mud shrimp during a single tidal cycle.

Each wave of shorebirds will stay just long enough to double their weight and gain enough energy reserves for the remainder of the journey to South America. Researchers believe the wind and tide influence their time of departure from the Bay of Fundy.

If startled or disturbed from rest, the peeps take to the air in a flowing, seemingly choreographed dance unparalleled in the avian world. Thousands of visitors come every year to witness the exquisite flight of these birds.

My comments: This is amazing, how that theses birds stop in Hopewell Rock and eat enough to double their weight and then fly thousands of km/miles before their next stop. God's GREAT creation. Province's Population on the Decline

The province's population has continued to decline this fall. According to Stats Canada, Canada has seen a slight rise in population as of the third quarter of 2010. The organization estimates that the country has just over 129,000 more residents. Newfoundland and Labrador was the only province to show a loss in population during the same period. As of October first, the population of Newfoundland and Labrador was estimated at just over 509,000.

In my opinion Danny is the best Premier NL has ever had. And I think he made the right choice by choosing Kathy Dunderdale for Interim Premier.

When I did some searching on the Internet about Guy Fawkes I discovered that King James 1, who had the King James Bible translated into English, was the king he was trying to kill. So here is some info about King James 1.

James Charles Stuart was born on June 19, 1566 at Edinburg Castle in Scotland. His father, Lord Darnley, was murdered in early 1567 before young James was 1 year old. His mother, Mary Queen of Scots, was soon afterwards forced to abdicate the Scottish throne due to her suspected involvement in the murder. Little James was crowned King James VI of Scotland at the tender age of 13 months. Reformation leader John Knox preached the sermon at his coronation.

Of his four tutors, perhaps one of the most influential was George Buchanan, a staunch Calvinist. It was under Mr. Buchanan's strict teaching methods that King James became one of the most learned and intellectually curious men to ever sit on any throne. Mr. Buchanan was 64 years old when he began tutoring the young king.

In July 1604, James appointed 54 men (but only 47 actually participated in translating the Bible into English) to a committee organized for the purpose of formulating a new translation to the Bible. The King James or Authorized Version of the Bible was published in 1611. It is the best-selling book of all time and, for many Christians the Authorized King James Version remains the absolute and final word of God.

This was the third such official translation into English; the first having been the Great Bible commissioned by the Church of England in the reign of King Henry VIII, and the second having been the Bishop's Bible of 1568.

The translators were organized into six groups and met respectively at Westminster, Cambridge, and Oxford. This group of great scholars had qualifications such as has not been rivaled before or after them. They spent most of their lifetimes in the pursuit of God and knowledge. One translator, Dr. Lancelot Andrews, mastered at least 15 languages and by the time he was 6 years old, he had read the entire Bible in Hebrew. Others on the translation committee were just as qualified. Some wrote foreign language dictionaries and lexicons, they commonly debated in Greek, they translated and edited great works and wrote their own. These are but a few of their fantastic accomplishments. They not only knew the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek biblical languages but also the related languages that shed light on them such as Arabic, Persian, Coptic, Syriac, Latin, Chaldee, Spanish, French, Italian, and Dutch.

These men were not only world class scholars; they were Christians who lived holy lives as Deans and Presidents of major universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, and Westminster. Some prayed 5 hours a day.
Upon its publication, the King James or Authorized Version eclipsed all previous and subsequent versions. It is the best-selling book of all time. Today there are a plethora of Bible versions available--yet for many Christians the King James Bible of 1611 is the absolute and final word of God.

May 2, 2011 will mark the 400th Year Anniversary of the AUTHORIZED KING JAMES BIBLE.

ANGELS

I heard Dr. David Jeremiah speaking about angels the other day on the radio.
I haven't seen an angel that I know of. But the Bible says that you may entertain angel unaware. (Heb. 13:2)

I thought of a couple of incidents that happened to me concerning angels.

Gail and I were moving some friends from NL to NS, Canada. I was towing a camper. After we got off the Ferry, which was about 11:30 PM, we were driving near Truro, NS on a 4 lane highway about 3 AM when I seen 2 deer standing on the section between the 2 lanes going one way and the 2 lanes going the other way. I slowed down to about 70 km/h when 1 deer stepped out in front of me. When I hit the deer it went up into the air and was flipping over and was heading for the windshield. But it didn't. It went over to the right side of the road into the ditch. After I stopped I went to check on the deer It was dead. Now it had to be an angel of the Lord that made that deer go 50 feet from the van to where it was laying in the ditch. Both my wife and I seen it coming straight down and than seen it go straight through the air for the ditch.

Thank the Lord for His protecting angels. Here is a Scripture that backs me up: "The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them." (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

I used to do the sound for Aglow Ministry. One time I got a call from NS. They asked me if Gail and I would come and do the sound for some special meetings they were having. I agreed. But when it came time to head out we were getting a snow storm. The people that plowed the roads were on strike. I got another call from NS and they said that they were praying and the Lord told them to tell me to come and the angels would guide us there. I said, "No worries we will be coming." When we left St. John's it was still snowing. We loaded the utility trailer and the van and headed for NS. We drove over hard snow drifts and on one lane sections, which were blown clear by the high winds. I leaned later that there is one section of the highway that was cut through rock that was full of snow. When we were getting near that area, a man and a boy was driving a pic-up that was going the opposite way. He stopped and told me that I couldn't get through there but that he would show me another way to get around it. He said for me to follow him until he got me on the right road. So I turned around and did as he said. After we got through there and got on the main highway there was a snow plow a head of us. So we followed for awhile. The roads were getting better as we headed west. We made it to the ferry and on to NS without any problems.

I believe that the angels of the Lord did guide us. The Lord is my Father and is good at guiding me through life's journey.

Rev. Singh recently made contact with a new pastor in Faisalabad, Pakistan and the pastor has accepted the Oneness of God and the salvation message of Acts 2:38. He has already begun to baptize people in Jesus Name. This last week, he baptized 15 more members of his church in Jesus Name. During the church service people were filled with the Holy Ghost and healed while they danced and shouted for joy.

One 29 year-old lady in particular was demon possessed. That service the demon was cast out and she was filled with the Holy Ghost and was baptized in Jesus Name. Her whole family was so excited about her deliverance, that they all were baptized in Jesus Name.
Praise God for this wonderful miracle!

When I lived in NL, I was used to Guy Fawkes Night, held on Nov. 5. I didn't pay much attention to it then. But since I have been living in NB, I haven't heard anything about it. So I checked the Internet to find out why. So here is the results of my search.

Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated in Britain annually on November 5th. Firework displays, the lighting of bonfires and the ceremonial effigy burning of one Guy Fawkes accompany the event. The origin of this celebration stems from events which took place in 1605 and was a conspiracy known as "The Gunpowder Plot," intended to take place on November 5th of that year (the day set for the opening of Parliament). The object of The Gunpowder Plot was to blow up English Parliament along with the ruling monarch, King James I. It was hoped that such a disaster would initiate a great uprising of English Catholics, who were distressed by the increased severity of penal laws against the practice of their religion.

The conspirators, who began plotting early in 1604, eventually expanded their members to a point where secrecy was impossible. One of their number, Thomas Percy (who had contacts at the Court of King James) hired a cellar beneath the House of Lords. Within this cellar were secretly stored 36 barrels (almost two tons) of gunpowder, overlaid with iron bars and firewood. The plan went awry, however, by way of a mysterious letter received by Lord Monteagle on October 26th (10 days prior to the opening of Parliament). Monteagle, brother-in-law of Francis Tresham (another of the conspirators and likely author of the correspondence...although this was never proven), was urged in the letter not to attend Parliament on opening day. When the message was revealed to the First Earl of Salisbury and others, they took steps, which led to the discovery of the hidden cache and the arrest of Guy Fawkes on the night of November 4th as he entered the cellar.

Also known as King James I (via an Act of Parliament), November 5th designated “Firework Night “and” Bonfire Night, as a day of thanksgiving for "the joyful day of deliverance."

Guy Fawkes Night is not solely a British celebration. The tradition was also established in the British colonies by the early American settlers and actively pursued in the New England States under the name of "Pope Day" as late as the Eighteenth Century. Today, the celebration of Guy Fawkes and his failed plot remains a tradition in such places as Newfoundland (Canada) and some areas of New Zealand, in addition to the British Isles.

How Canada Geese fly
Parents teach the young to fly after new flight feathers have grown and usually run along the surface of the
water or ground for takeoff.
Speed 50 to 90 km/hr (30 to 55 m/hr).
Can travel more than 1000 km in a day (over 650 miles)

MIGRATION
When snow falls and the lakes and rivers of the north freeze over, the geese are unable to swim or find food. The geese migrate to places where it is warmer and where food is available.
Migrating birds usually follow the same path every year.

FALL MIGRATION
Families gather together to form flocks as days get shorter, the geese eat more to form a layer of body fat.
Migration begins in late August or early September (depending on how far north they are).
Flocks travels by day or night, fly in V-shape, often an irregular V-formation, sometimes in lines flying in a V-shape requires less energy and birds can fly longer distances. It is easier for others to follow (birds can see what is ahead)
One of the larger, stronger birds is the leader and they change leaders during flight to give the leader bird a rest.
Flocks lands to feed and rest at familiar places (marshes, farmers' fields.)
When cloudy they may fly closer to the ground.
Canada Geese spend the winter in southern Canada, the United States and Mexico.

There were 2 flocks of wild geese flying over our place today. What was so amazing was that there were 2 birds that left 1 flock and went over to the other flock and 1 went between the second and third birds on the left V and then moved over to the right V. I think that was sooooooooo amazing. One flock must of told him/her to get over to where he/she belongs. Don R Kierstead

On Sunday, October 31, 2010 we had a Pastor Appreciation day. We had a special speaker. (Rev. Harry Lewis) Then we had a great meal. Thanks for all the people that brought all that good food. Thanks for the ladies for getting the meal ready. After that we had a skit that was really funny. Some of us dressed funny which made people laugh. Thanks to Travis & Shirley Adams for putting on the skit.
I like, and agree, what was written on the wall on the front of our church: ANYONE CAN BE A PREACHER, BUT IT TAKES SOMEONE SPECIAL TO BE A PASTOR. The best pastor that I know of.

Can anybody tell me which place in North America were these pictures were taken? Why? Because I received one by email on June 26/06 that said this was taken on the Southern Shore of Newfoundland, Canada.
The other one was sent to me by email on Oct. 14/10 saying that this was taken North of the Wisconsin border on a highway near Marenisco, MI., United States of America.
So somebody is not telling the truth. Tell me who is.

A LAWYER & A SENIOR CITIZEN

A lawyer and a senior citizen are sitting next to each other on a long flight.
The lawyer is thinking that seniors are so dumb that he could get one over on them easy.
So the lawyer asks if the senior would like to play a fun game.
The senior is tired and just wants to take a nap, so he politely declines and tries to catch a few winks.
The lawyer persists saying that the game is a lot of fun. I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me only $5.
Then you ask me one, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500, he says.
This catches the senior's attention and to keep the lawyer quiet, he agrees to play the game.
The lawyer asks the first question. 'What's the distance from the Earth to the Moon?'
The senior doesn't say a word, but reaches into his pocket, pulls out a five-dollar bill, and hands it to the lawyer.
Now it's the senior's turn. He asks the lawyer, 'What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?'
The lawyer uses his laptop and searches all references he could find on the Net.
He sends e-mails to all the smart friends he knows; all to no avail.
After an hour of searching, he finally gives up.
He wakes the senior and hands him $500. The senior pockets the $500 and goes right back to sleep.
The lawyer is going nuts not knowing the answer. He wakes the senior up and asks, 'Well, so what goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four?'
The senior reaches into his pocket, hands the lawyer $5 and goes back to sleep.

These HIJET truck were made by Daihatsu in Japan. I have never seen these trucks before. I think they are a neat little truck. I wish I had the money to buy one but I don't. I took these photos at a place near our place in Fredericton, NB.

It's that time of year for us to take our annual senior citizen test. Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important to keep mentally alert. If you don't use it, you lose it!

HIPPOTAMUS & THE TORTOISE

NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby hippopotamus that survived the Tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast has formed a strong bond with a giant male century-old tortoise.

Facility in the port city of Mombassa officials said the hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about 300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki River
into the Indian Ocean then forced back to shore when Tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on December 26 before wildlife rangers rescued him.

'It is incredible. A-less-than-a-year-old hippo has adopted a male tortoise, about a century old, and the tortoise seems to be very happy with being a 'mother', ecologist Paula Kahumbu, who is in charge of Lafarge Park, told AFP.

After it was swept away and lost its mother, the hippo was traumatized. It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother. Fortunately, it landed on the tortoise and established a strong bond.

They swim, eat and sleep together, the ecologist added. The hippo follows the tortoise exactly the way it followed its mother.

If somebody approaches the tortoise, the hippo becomes aggressive as if protecting its biological mother, Kahumbu added.

The hippo is a young baby, he was left at a very tender age and by nature, hippos are social animals that like to stay with their mothers for four years, he explained.

Quantas Airlines Have A Laugh

In case you need a laugh: Remember, it takes a college degree to fly a plane but only a high school diploma to fix one.

After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form, called a 'Gripe Sheet' which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft.

The mechanics correct the problems; document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the Gripe Sheets before the next flight.

Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas' pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers.

By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an accident.

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.
